THE INTERNATIONAL sales and marketing arm of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) said it will enter the North American market this month to provide Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) services.
PLDT Global President and Chief Executive Officer Alex Caeg said at the launch announcement that North America represents its eighth overseas market after similar MVNO offerings in Macau, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Guam, Taiwan, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
PLDT Global's North American partner will be T-Mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, with the service targeting the estimated 3.5 million Filipinos in North America.
"The virtual network services will be launched in Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas around June 12," Mr. Caeg said.
PLDT is a Philippine units of Hong Kong's First Pacific Co. Ltd. Hastings Holdings, Inc., a unit of PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund subsidiary MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., holds a majority stake in BusinessWorld. -- Chrisee de la Paz
